I have been using Hivelocity for around 6 months now and have been a very happy customer. I am pretty picky when it comes to hosting providers. I want to be able to customize my systems in a very specific manner, and I also want a host who has good peering relationships and knowledgeable customer support. Hivelocity has delivered on all three of these.
They were able to quickly provision my system from their easy to use portal, and support was very responsive when I had questions about hardware provisioning as well as for other networking related issues. I am also very happy that they provide native IPv6 to my systems which is another primary requirement for my systems. The network performance has been fantastic, and the fact that they have a presence at 1 Wilshire in LA is also another huge bonus for me.
I have used numerous companies for dedicated servers, and Hivelocity has always been the one I have gone back to. Their pricing and support have been unbeatable for me. I do not use any managed services, I manage my Linux servers myself. A few years ago I was running websites for a TV show on the SyFy channel and we had a drive die. I do my own backups from the server. They replaced the drive, restored everything.
Every server I have gotten from Hivelocity has always been deployed on time. I don't know what the review about it taking 6 times longer than they quoted... anytime you request a custom server, it takes time... and you always sit around impatiently... but all of the times I have ordered from Hivelocity have gone as expected. They kept me updated, and this last time even sent me a photo of my server in the rack with a sign pointing to it.
The only complaint I have about them is the price of the 8TB helium filled drives...but those are expensive to begin with.
I absolutely love the web-based virtual power switch. If something goes wrong, I can hard-power down the server. If I can't get to it still, I have IPMI.
Took more than 6 times the quoted amount of time to setup a server. When I asked on the status of the setup my ticket was simply forwarded to Billing with the response that they wouldn't be in until the next day. It is now 2 days later and they still haven't responded. Don't give them a penny, ridiculous.
Let me start by telling you I am sorry for your experience. We are typically able to deploy any of several thousand server configurations within 4 hours. It sounds like we fell far short of our average deployment time with you. Our Billing and Sales Dept handle the on boarding of new customers, however, each of those departments shuts down by 7pm EST. It sounds like you talked to our 24/7 Tech Support Dept after hours and they passed the buck. I am sorry for your frustration. We deploy hundreds of new servers every month and your experience is not the norm. I will make sure we do better going forward.
